The compute power, storage (or lack thereof) etc., in sensors on a factor floor to CCTV cameras and badge readers, share significant similarities to that of embedded systems for controlling switchgear in substations or small processes in specialized equipment. Naturally, the security architecture of IoT should lean heavily on lessons learnt from the ‘insecurity’ of those embedded devices. Let’s explore the difference between what is happening and what we believe should happen.
