SUMMARY:IoT Legal Landscape: Limits of Private Sector Collection and Use of Data
DESCRIPTION:The United States regulates information privacy in the private sector through a complicated patchwork of legislation\, regulations\, and self-regulation. Together with industry best practices\, this regulatory environment provides the backbone of consumer privacy protection for US companies. The IoT industry illustrates these challenges well. In this session\, we will delve into the current regulatory landscape and understand how it impacts IoT implementations. At a high level\, we will cover: \n\nThe Federal Trade Commission Act\nFTC Privacy Enforcement Actions\nFTC Security Enforcement Actions\nFuture of federal enforcement (IoT\, AI\, Big data\, unregulated data)

SUMMARY:Managing the cyber security risks across the lifecycle of the Smart Built Environment
DESCRIPTION:This session will cover the many challenges of managing the cyber security of a Smart Building across the various professionals who will oversee a small part of it over the lifecycle of the building. The Security of Smart Buildings is often managed by facilities professionals\, whereas the cyber security of Smart Buildings is often not managed by single profession. The session will cover how the IoTSF publication on this topic helps to overcome many of the challenges by providing much needed guidance.

SUMMARY:Let's not Reinvent the Wheel in IoT Security!
DESCRIPTION:The Internet of Things Security Foundation (IoTSF) Houston Chapter is back with another expert speaking session in our monthly webinar series! \nJoin us as Vivek Ponnada presents “Let’s not Reinvent the Wheel in IoT Security!” on September 14th\, 11am CT. \nSummary: IoT has a lot of things in common with Embedded devices that have been utilized in various industries for years. The compute power\, storage (or lack thereof) etc.\, in sensors on a factor floor to CCTV cameras and badge readers\, share significant similarities to that of embedded systems for controlling switchgear in substations or small processes in specialized equipment. Naturally\, the security architecture of IoT should lean heavily on lessons learnt from the ‘insecurity’ of those embedded devices. Let’s explore the difference between what is happening and what we believe should happen. \nCome and learn from one of the brightest minds in the OT/IoT cybersecurity space. Register by scanning the QR code on the flyer or click the link below. I’ll be your host so see you there!
